PRINCIPAL NOTE
I am very excited as we will soon be sending a St. Joseph Journal to school families, parishioners and alumni, highlighting some of the exciting things happening at St. Joseph’s. I hope you enjoy the publication and share it with others. It should be in mailboxes in two weeks.
Safety and security is a big part of operating a school. I have scheduled a safety/security evaluation for the school. The walk through will take place in mid December and will provide us with valuable information regarding our safety procedures and practices. A full report will be provided to the school with suggestions for possible improvements. We will also be working with the local first responders to assist us with another layer of the assessment process. I will provide further information once the report is provided.
Please provide your feedback on a two question survey about your interest in wider preschool offerings and possible summer programming. https://forms.gle/gdoA4zCDer4nrNaX9

EMERGENCY LOCKDOWNS AND DRILLS
On Tuesday, October 25th we were notified of an emergency instructing us to shelter in place. We followed our emergency procedures and our students and staff did a wonderful job following our plan. Fortunately we were in no real danger as this was sent in error and we were well out of the area where the threat was happening. Once we made contact with the WSP Police Department, we issued the all clear and sent communication out to our school families notifying you of this information.
We did learn through this process that a parent's natural instinct is to contact the school and inform us and or want to pick up your child. Parents, please know that in an emergency situation, our first priority is the safety and well being of every single child and staff member in this building. We do need to have our phone lines open so that we are able to contact the Police Department for further information and instructions. We understand how scared and uneasy you can feel in these situations, while we are Administrators and Educators, we are also parents. Please know that we will send communication out to all families as soon as we are able to update you when we are in an emergency situation.

THE WEATHER IS CHANGING
As fall weather is here, please remember to be sending your children to school with sweaters, sweatshirts, and jackets. It can be very cool at the bus stops and on the playground.
Please note that sweaters, sweatshirts or pullovers worn by students in their classrooms must follow our uniform dress code. Clothing items, other than St. Joseph’s uniform, are not to be worn in the classrooms. Please remember to label all of your child’s clothing so that it can be returned to them in the event that it is misplaced or lost while at school. The last day to wear shorts is October 31.
