Dear St. Joseph’s School Families,
WOW! The second to the last week of school has flown by! Our teachers and students have been very busy completing lessons, projects and assessments as well as enjoying each other’s company as we complete the remainder of the school year. In addition, there is most probably some organizing and cleaning going on as well. Only 2 days of school for students remaining (but who is counting?).
Families will find included in this Friday Letter important information regarding the end of the 2020-2021 school year.
Memorial Day – Monday, May 31 No School
Just a reminder that school will not be in session on Monday, May 31 in the observance of Memorial Day. School will resume on Tuesday, June 1 at 8:40 a.m. Please be safe and enjoy the long weekend.
School Endowment – Incredible Generous Gifts
Father Creagan is very excited to announce a significant gift and opportunity for the St. Joseph’s School Endowment. A copy of the letter that went out to our current school parents and alumni announcing the matching challenge to build our school endowment. Former pastor, Fr. Peter Wittman, recently left an estate gift of $87,000 in support of the school endowment. Inspired by this generosity and the value of Catholic education, somebody else within our community quietly stepped forward and offered a challenge gift, where they will match the first $100,000 of additional gifts made to the endowment! This is a tremendous gift and opportunity for our school that will benefit students for generations to come.
Please prayerfully consider how you might be called to significantly support this important initiative. A response card is included in the mailing, and online giving for this initiative is available as well on the school's website.

St. Joseph’s School Faculty - Update
First, we would like to introduce Ms. Rebecca Wratkowski as our new Middle school Science/STEM teacher. Rebecca is an eight-year veteran teacher previously teaching at St. Helena Catholic School in Minneapolis. She has taught Science for 5th through 8th grade as well as taught Religion, Math, Technology, Art, and French as needed. In addition to her background in Science, she has completed the St. Paul Seminary Catechetical Institute with the Mother Teresa class of 2018. Please join me in welcoming Ms. Wratkowski to our St. Joseph’s School faculty.
Second, Mrs. Kuettel, Kindergarten teacher, has notified us that she will not be returning to teach Kindergarten next school year. With the upcoming birth of their second child, she and her family have decided that she will be stepping away from teaching at this time allowing her to be at home with their children. It is our mutual hope that she will be back with us the following school year, God-willing, after this transition. We want to both thank Mrs. Kuettel for her service, and offer our prayers and support for her and her family this next year.
Report Cards
Third trimester report cards will be mailed out to families the week of June 7. For grade 2-8 students, the NWEA MAP assessment Student Report will be included with the report card. Upon receipt of this information, please contact the school office if you have any questions.
Urgent Request from Bishop Cozzens Re: School Choice
The Minnesota Catholic Conference has shared the following information with us. Please read and consider taking action. Thank you!
Bishop Andrew Cozzens, as Vicar of Catholic Education for the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, has an urgent request that he has asked us to share with our school faculty and parents. You can watch his short video message here.
Right now legislators and Governor Walz have multiple proposals in front of them that can make real educational choices more accessible to parents and their children. Students, who urgently need access to schools that meet their unique educational needs, ask you and all people of good will to speak out now!
Here are four things you can do to make an immediate impact:
