St. Joseph's Middle School is a community like no other. Here, students are challenged academically, spiritually, and socially to become the best version of themselves. Our middle school focuses on preparing students for high school. We have a robust and rigorous curriculum, we engage our students in our shared faith through leadership and service, and we strive to promote excellence in all that we do. At St. Joseph's, students build lasting friendships in the classrooms, through class trips and experiences, at social events and parties, and by participating in extracurricular activities.
St. Joseph’s Middle School serves our 6th, 7th and 8th graders. Our middle school program builds on the foundation of our elementary school with a continued focus on promoting the emotional, social, academic and spiritual growth of each student. Our goal is for each student to graduate from St. Joseph’s Middle School with a love of God, a passion for learning, and the skills needed to thrive in high school and beyond.
As students transition to middle school at St. Joe’s, they move into their own separated space in our building. Our middle school program moves from the homeroom setting of the elementary grades to a structure that features academic specialists teaching each subject area. Students benefit from this team of teachers working with them during the three years of middle school. Our teachers personally know each student and his/her family, recognize the individual gifts and challenges of each child, and provide the mentoring and guidance each student needs to reach his/her potential.
As a Catholic school, faith is at the heart of all that we do and teach. Our administrators, teachers and staff are dedicated to working with parents to instill a love of God and to aid in the development of virtue among our students. Middle School students participate in weekly liturgies, receive daily religious instruction and prepare for the sacrament of Confirmation (8th grade). Community service, retreat experiences and daily prayer enhance each student's faith formation.
Middle school students are given additional responsibilities and we look to them to be leaders and role models for our younger students. We set high expectations because we believe in our students and their ability to succeed. Students are encouraged to show initiative, act with appropriate independence, and accept responsibility and accountability for themselves, their learning and their actions. Students have many opportunities to demonstrate leadership including Student Council, our Buddy Program, and as student announcers, song leaders, musicians at liturgies and greeters during our open houses.
The Middle School curriculum at St. Joseph’s School is designed to advance academic competency and confidence, while increasing accountability. We place special emphasis on preparing our students for high school and believe excellence is achieved by setting high standards, providing appropriate instructional methods and monitoring achievement.
Core curriculum classes include Religion, Language Arts (Communication Skills and Literature), Mathematics, Science (STEAM) and Social Studies. Our specialty subjects of Spanish, Art, Music elective (Choir, Band or General Music), Physical Education and Health complement and enrich each student's overall academic experience.
Technology plays an integral role in our middle school program. St. Joe’s has a one-to-one laptop program, where each middle school student has a dedicated Apple MacBook for use at home and school. Through this program, students learn advanced technology skills and have expanded educational opportunities. The laptops are fully integrated into the classroom, teaching and homework. Parents and students view assignments and grades electronically using Google Classroom and Educate, our student information system.
