When our students enter sixth grade, they are each sorted into four "houses"--Ujasiri, Ionracas, Alegria, Carita--the four virtues of Fortitude, Justice, Temperance, and Charity, for the rest of their time in Middle School. They build close-knit community with each other through team building activities and competition, and learn what it means to have integrity and virtue!
The whole school is also part of a virtue education program, called Virtues in Practice, developed by the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia congregation in Nashville. Each year, we cycle through one of the three theological virtues of Faith, Hope, and Love, and each month is broken down into one virtue related to the overarching virtue. Students learn what this means and how to apply it to their lives, as well as a patron saint who embodies that particular virtue.
